George Pataki launches his long shot White House bid George Pataki -Image Credit:  Getty Images Yet another Republican candidate emerged with a speech in New Hampshire’s Exeter. George Pataki has announced his bid for President in 2016 elections and acknowledged that the run will be a long one. George Pataki, a former New York governor with three terms under his wing, has been making some low-key campaigning in the previous months in Florida and New Hampshire and only this Thursday he has officially announced his White House bid with the GOP, making him the eight Republican candidate to make a formal bid. His campaign is a long shot, since he barely makes the polls of the Presidential race nationwide and it is very uncertain that he will even make the first Republican debate of the top 10 Republican candidates, especially when there is still an expectation of other White House hopefuls to announce their ...

U.S. President Barack Obama’s immigration action is put on hold due to the block from a Texas District Justice in February, which came before many of the affected immigrants were to start applying for the new immigration program. Officials from the White House are now informing that the President will not take immediate action regarding this issue due to the confusion caused. This development comes after the Federal Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals denied the request form the Justice Department to give President Barack Obama’s right to exercise his executive powers on his proposal of immigration actions. Back in November 2014, President Barack Obama made a speech about undocumented immigrants and proposed an action to ease the deportation of such immigrants. The programs that were proposed for implementation are the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans (DAPA) and Lawful Permanent Residents and the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), the program for teens who are ...

New legislation designed to speed up and fast track trade deals is on course to being approved. The new laws would allow President Barack Obama to be able to push through trade deals through Congress, with the Senate agreeing at this point that this move is important in helping to improve Asian trade options. According to a report by Reuters, the senators voted 62-38 to set up a speedy decision on the "fast-track" trade negotiating authority the president needs to complete the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal. The TPP is what is known as a “pivot to Asia” by the President and is considered to be a way in which to counter the rising dominance of China within Asia by building stronger links with other countries in the region and the US: Obama called the vote "a big step forward," adding that his trade agenda dovetails with the "strong labor standards, strong environmental standards" ...

The right for people to be able to marry, no matter what their sexual orientation, is a hot topic in the US with many more conservative voters becoming increasingly sympathetic to gay marriage, however Jeb bush has made it clear where he stands on the issue. During a radio interview, the potential Republican candidate for president Jeb Bush said that he did not think that the US constitution granted the right for gay marriage and added that he was fully in support of what he termed to be “traditional marriages”. According to a report by Reuters, the Supreme Court is expected by the end of June to make a landmark ruling that could make gay marriage the law of the land or return the decision to individual states. But this would not be favoured by Jeb Bush who said during the interview: "It's at the core of the Catholic faith and to imagine ...

Civil unrest across the United States following the deaths of black men at the hands of the police authorities has led President Barack Obama to take some direct action in restricting the equipment available for officers. According to a report by Reuters, the president has outlined his plans to bring in new restrictions regarding the use of military equipment by members of police departments across the country. The new plans will see heavy equipment such as explosive resistant vehicles with tacked wheels similar to a tank, being banned by use of the police.  Other equipment more normally associated with the military and not the police, including mine resistant ambush protected vehicles and riot shields will be available to police, however they will be forced to provide added justification for their use in the future. According to Reuters Obama will announce the steps, which are the result of an executive order, during a visit ...

The Clinton Foundation, set up by Bill, Hillary and now including their daughter Chelsea Clinton, has been at the centre of much speculation now for months and is still facing some challenging questions. Thanks to Hillary Clinton formally announcing her intention to stand as a candidate for the Democratic nomination for the White house, she and her family have come under intense scrutiny – including the Clinton Foundation. According to Reuters, the Clinton Foundation has acknowledged that the government funding totals omitted from their tax returns cannot be found on their website either, despite the foundation's acting chief executive officer earlier suggesting they were available there. This acknowledgement from the foundation shows that there have been no clear totals about government grants given to the foundation made available to the public for the last three years of Hillary Clinton’s four years as Secretary of State. These charity rules are not only for the Clinton ...

Much has been made about the differences between Jeb Bush and his father and brother who were both previous Presidents of the US, however it seems that Jeb Bush agrees with his family members when it comes to the crucial question of the Iraq War. According to a report by Reuters, Jeb Bush, who is widely predicted to announce his candidacy as the Republican candidate for the Presidential Race in 2016, has said that he would have done what his brother done and would have authorised  the 2003 invasion of Iraq. The authorisation of the invasion in 2003 by George W. Bush was hugely controversial and remains an issue debated by many. The invasion of the Iraq by the United States came after a case was made claiming that Saddam Hussein was in possession of biological weapons.  It has since transpired that this assumption had been made upon flawed intelligence information and no ...

The problems in the US relating to class and race have been discussed on a personal level by US president Barack Obama. It is well documented that the wealth gap between the rich and the poor in America has been growing with the Occupy Wall Street movement highlighting the 99% of people who live on the same means as the remaining 1%. The favourable tax loopholes that have allowed the super rich and wealthy hedge fund managers to be able to dodge paying taxes that average Americans have to pay has been highlighted by the President. Speaking at a discussion focusing on poverty at Georgetown University, President Barack Obama said: "The top 25 hedge fund managers made more than all the kindergarten teachers in the country." He added: "If we can’t ask from society’s lottery winners to just make that modest investment, then, really, this conversation is for show." President Obama has been a long ...
