Martin-O-MalleyMartin O’Malley, the former governor of Maryland has launched his White House bid on Saturday and spoke about social injustice and breaking Wall Street. He positions himself to be the strongest rival to Hillary Clinton in the race for the Democrat nomination in the 2016 elections.

Martin O’Malley has had a very successful two terms as the governor of the blue state Maryland and a mayor of Baltimore for 6 years. In the previous months, he has been campaigning in states like Iowa and New Hampshire and has been searching for support from the liberal and progressive base of the Democratic Party.

This Saturday in Baltimore, he announced his official candidacy for the Democratic Party’s Presidential nomination and has positioned himself as an alternative to the Democrat forerunner Hillary Clinton, gaining support from the Democratic Party’s liberal wing.

He is the latest Democrat to make a bid for the White House, after the official announcements of the candidacies of Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton. However, even with Bernie Sanders’ long shot chances for getting the Democrat nomination, Martin O’Malley has very little recognition in the national election polls with only 0.8%, putting him at the bottom of the Democratic list, way behind Hillary Clinton. This makes virtually no chance of him stepping in the front run of the Democratic race.

Making the speech from Baltimore he referenced the recent events that happened there, with the death of Freddie Gray and made comments about the economy and that social injustice is the thing that he is willing to fight.

According to Reuters, he stated that “Conditions of extreme and growing poverty create conditions for extreme violence”. He also said that violence in economic terms was “not only about race, not only about policing in America.”

His success speaks about his will to make change, with raising Maryland’s minimum wage, repealing the death penalty, same-sex marriage legalization and in-state tuition rates for undocumented immigrants.

He is, also, against the big banks creating the economy and has publicly criticized Goldman Sachs. According to Reuters, he made a remark in his speech about Wall Street and that he plans to adopt an entirely new strategy. He stated “Powerful, wealthy special interests here at home have used our government to create, in our own country, an economy that is leaving a majority of our people behind.”

Being a liberal left wing Democrat, he also stated “Well, I’ve got news for the bullies of Wall Street; the presidency is not a crown that you can pass back and forth by you between two royal families.”

O’Malley is trying to bring a more progressive voice to the Democratic Party and promises to push liberal approaches in the U.S. governmental policies. For now, he has a very low record at the 10`6 elections opinion polls.
