President Barack Obama said on Thursday that the Republican frontrunner for the 2016 Elections, Donald Trump, has an unrealistic immigration plan for mass deportation of millions of undocumented immigrants.

Obama was a guest on ABC News on Thursday and was asked by Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos about Trump’s comments about his deportation plans and using a “deportation force” and the President did not shy away from calling Trump’s vision unrealistic and crazy.

According to Reuters, Obama stated “The notion that we are going to deport 11 or 12 million people from this country – first of all, I have no idea where Mr. Trump thinks the money is going to come from. It would cost us hundreds of billions of dollars to execute that.” He added “Imagine the images on the screen flashed around the world as we were dragging parents away from their children, and putting them in what, detention centers, and then systematically sending them out. Nobody thinks that is realistic. But, more importantly, that’s not who we are as Americans.”

Donald Trump, a real estate mogul and billionaire businessman has been the frontrunner for the Republican Presidential nomination ever since he announced his candidacy and put immigration as one of the central elements of his Presidential campaign. He vowed to deport illegal immigrants if he is to take the oval office and pledged to force the Mexican government to pay for the building of a wall on the border between Mexico and the United States.

However, Trump has gained a large crowd of supporters by making such statements, conservatives in particular. But, Hispanic voters have been angered by such calls, because the majority of immigrants are Hispanic and feel very threatened by such a policy.

According to Reuters, Obama acknowledged that an anti-immigrant sentiment has always been prevalent in the United States, but reiterated that it is not in the American values to force such a policy. He said “We don’t want, I think, a President or any person in a position of leadership to play on those kinds of fears.”

He was also joined by the U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, who said that the Mexican government would most definitely not pay for the wall that Trump is imagining.

Furthermore, The American Action Forum has estimated that in order to deport all illegal immigrants from the United States, the federal government would spend from $400 to $600 billion dollars, for locating, apprehending, prosecuting and deporting the immigrants.

Donald Trump has been continuing his aggressive rhetoric on deportation and on Wednesday doubled the controversy when he stated that he would immediately deport all 11 million undocumented immigrants by using a “deportation force “ and that he was going to do it humanely.
